Victor has always been drawn towards the all embracing sound of the organ and choral music, often to the exclusion of anything else, regardless of whether the building from which the majestic sound emanated was officially open to the public or not. This resulted in unlikely opportunities to 'have a go' on organs in places like Canterbury Cathedral, St Paul's Cathedral, London, and Chichester Cathedral!

Having begun piano lessons at the age of six he demanded that he start the organ with Philip Tomblings at Merchant Taylor's School with whom he was due to continue the piano as soon as he arrived there!  He was also encouraged to sing in the choirs. At fifteen he was appointed Assistant Organist at Amersham Parish Church, venturing into the world of choir training. He played at various Buckinghamshire churches before moving to Surrey where he was appointed Director of Music at St John the Baptist, West Byfleet. Later appointments included St Martin's, Dorking, the home church of the late Ralph Vaughan Williams, Holy Trinity, Cuckfield, St Michael and All Angels, Brighton and Eastbourne Parish Church. He was, for some nine years, a Director of the Eastbourne Festival of Arts and Culture.

Victor is a Senior Fellow of the North and Midlands School of Music (Snr FNMSM), has a Certificate in Sacred Music Studies from the Royal School of Church Music (Cert RSCM), a Fellow of the Academy of St Cecilia (FASC) and a Licentiate of the Guild of Musicians and Singers (LGMS). He is a Fellow of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (FISM), a member of the Brighton and District Organists Association and Honorary Organist to the local branch of the Guild of Servers of the Sanctuary.

Meeting House, University of Sussex

Victor has given organ recitals at The Meeting House, University of Sussex, at various churches in the Brighton Festival Fringe, at St Mary's Eastbourne and nationally. His composition 'Thi Son Naylid' was performed at Eastbourne Festival and his arrangement of 'Holy babe, sleeping there' at the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. His anthem, 'A Wedding Prayer' has proved popular with brides to be. He has transcribed and arranged the relevant parts of Schubert's 'Deutsche Messe' for four part choir and organ for use with Common Worship.

He has undertaken research into the development of early Roman Oratorio at the University of Sussex and has a particular interest both in the performance practice of Italian Renaissance music and the Counter-Reformation forces which influenced its development and spread throughout Europe.

Victor is an experienced choral workshop leader using both sacred and secular, classical and popular repertoire. He believes that repertoire should move forward with culture and that, where not expressly targeted, program planning should embrace works by living or contemporary composers. He shies away from musical pomposity and snobbery, believing that music is an art which should be stripped of mystery and made accessible in all its genres to the community as a whole.
